Fancy a walk around the block? Part 1

Jaipur is famous for its block printed fabrics, so we thought we ought to go and see how it all happens for ourselves.

The first place we visited was a craft factory which coordinates printing, rug knotting etc

This is a three colour print, with this chap putting the main pattern on in purple

Then this one comes along printing the next layer in a different colour.

It all seems to be registered by eye

Then finally this chap adds the final layer of detail.

Tools of the trade: ingenious print trays with wire mesh to stop too much of the natural dyes getting on the block

and blocks to die for . . .
